KOSHU CAPTIVATES JANCIS
Koshu of Japan (KOJ) is proud to present its second annual UK trade and press tasting, with very special guest Jancis Robinson OBE MW, who will host an exciting tutored tasting of an exclusive range of wines from the Yamanashi Prefecture.
Date: Thursday 20 January 2011
Main trade tasting: 10.30am - 5.00pm (a light lunch will be available from 12.30pm)
Tutored tasting: 11.30am - 12.15pm with Jancis Robinson OBE MW
Place: The Imagination Gallery, South Crescent, 25 Store Street, London WC1E 7BL
(nearest tube Tottenham Court Road or Warren Street)
Jancis visited the Yamanashi Prefecture in February 2010, and was so impressed with what she both saw and tasted during her time there, that she has agreed to present a tutored tasting of wines from the region. The wines which will be presented were amongst those tasted by Jancis during her visit and will be discussed in depth during the tasting. She has personally selected the wines for this unique event, and will discuss each of the eight wines presented.
This exclusive trade-only event will also showcase Koshu wines from 14 producers that will be attending the tasting in person, all of whom are looking for distribution in the UK for their wines, which cover a broad range of styles.
Koshu is Japan's principal white wine, and is characterised by it lightness, elegance and moderate levels of alcohol. The Koshu grape is a Vitis Vinfera white varietal indigenous to Japan that has been cultivated for about 1000 years. The vineyards of the Yamanashi Prefecture are located an hour-and-a-half east of Tokyo, and the region is ringed by mountains, including the majestic Mount Fuji on its southern border. The wineries in this area produce 95% of Japan's Koshu production.
This is a rare chance to taste these new and exciting wines in the UK, all under the expert guidance of one of the industry's most knowledgeable experts, so we hope you can join Jancis and us for what promises to be the most original and interesting tasting of the New Year!
